Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative condition that affects nerve cells in the brain that control movement. Mostly associated symptoms with Parkinson's are motor symptoms, such as tremor, muscle rigidity and slowness of movement. However, many people may also experience non-motor symptoms, such as pain, anxiety and depression. Worldwide Parkinson’s affects around 10 million people. Most people with Parkinson's are over 60 years old and it is slightly more common in men than in women. More than 15 000 people in Switzerland are living with Parkinson’s diseases and every year there are around 3 000 new cases.
