Swiss Society for Sleep Research, Sleep Medicine and Chronobiology (SGSSC)
Consists of physicians specializing or having already specialized in Neurology, Pneumology, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, as well as of other neuroscientists and biologists who are active in the sleep-wake field.
Comment: Organises the Swiss Sleep Congress, provides prizes and grants. Has a “young” section (Swiss Young Sleep Wake Chronobiology Network - SYSWCN).
European Sleep Research Society (ESRS)
An international scientific non-profit organisation that promotes all aspects of sleep research and sleep medicine.
Comment: Publication of the Journal of Sleep Research (JSR), organisation of scientific meetings, promotion of training and education opportunities, dissemination of information, and the establishment of fellowships and awards.
American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM)
Sets standards and promotes excellence in sleep medicine health care, education, and research. The AASM has a combined membership of 11,000 accredited member sleep centers and individual members, including physicians, scientists, and other health care professionals.
Comment: Develops clinical guidelines for the sleep field such as the International Classification of Sleep Disorders and the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events.
World Sleep Society (WSS)
Nonprofit, professional membership organisation dedicated to advancing sleep health worldwide. WSS aims to advance knowledge about sleep, circadian rhythms, sleep health, and sleep disorders worldwide, especially in those parts of the world where this knowledge has not advanced sufficiently.
Comment: WSS manages a variety of programs that engage the global community of sleep physicians, researchers, and professionals as well the public. It has developed and guided programs like the biennial World Sleep Congress, World Sleep Day, and the International Sleep Research Training Program, among others.
Sleep Research Society (SRS)
Organisation for scientific investigators who educate and research sleep and circadian science.
Comment: Serves its members and the field of sleep research through training and education, and by providing forums for the collaboration and the exchange of ideas. The forums include the SRS Trainee Symposia Series, a program specifically aimed at young researchers entering the field of sleep.
