Stroke: one of the most common causes of death worldwide

09.05.2023

European Stroke Awareness Day | 9 May 2023

Stroke is the most common cause of adult-acquired disability and is the third-leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer in industrialised countries. Approximately 20,000 people suffer a stroke in Switzerland each year. Around 80% of them are over 65 years old. Strokes are the most common cause of permanent disability worldwide, often resulting in the need for long-term care in adulthood.

The Swiss Neurological Society (SNS) and the Swiss Stroke Society (SSS) would like to provide the public with information and pool expert knowledge in an interdisciplinary manner in the interests of making neurology a strong specialist discipline.
