Membership categories
Ordinary members
Specialists who practice mainly in Switzerland or the Principality of Liechtenstein and who meet the following conditions are admitted as ordinary members:
- A Swiss federal specialist neurology qualification or a recognised foreign specialist neurology qualification
- Compliance with the SNS’s advanced training regulations
- Support of one sponsor (ordinary member of the SNS)
- or lecturer in neurology or a related subject at a Swiss university
Ordinary members are eligible to vote at the General Meeting.
Extraordinary members
Extraordinary members are neurology specialists working abroad who are members of their country’s professional society and doctors and non-medical scientists or researchers working in Switzerland and internationally who are active in neurology or a related field, are interested in the field of neurology and related fields and maintain relations with the society. They pay a reduced membership fee and have an advisory vote at the General Meeting.
SAYN members
The young neurologists category is open to all doctors (regardless of age) undergoing further training to obtain the FMH-recognised title of neurologist. They pay heavily discounted membership fees and are eligible to vote at the General Meeting.

WIN members
Women in Neurology (WIN) membership is open to all female junior doctors and neurology specialists who are also members of the SNS.
Honorary members
Honorary members are appointed based on outstanding achievements in neurology service. Honorary members retain their former membership rights. They are also exempt from paying membership fees.
Free members
Ordinary and extraordinary members who have reached their 70th birthday or have retired from professional practice become free members. The membership category is switched by submitting a written request to the Presidents at the end of the current financial year. Free members retain their former membership rights, but are exempt from the need to pay the annual membership fees.
Corresponding members
The General Meeting may appoint doctors or non-medical scientists and researchers who are based internationally and have distinguished themselves in neurology or related fields to the corresponding members category. They are appointed at the Executive Board’s request to the General Meeting. They do not pay membership fees and have an advisory vote at General Meetings.
Associate members
Interprofessionalism is taken into account with associate membership and is open to all professionals working in the clinical neuro field. Associate members are not entitled to vote or hold office and pay a reduced membership fee.

- CHF 150 for Extraordinary members
- CHF 100 for SAYN members
- CHF 50 for Associate members
