Privacy policy

This privacy policy provides you with information about the nature, scope and purpose of personal data processing on our website. It also contains information about partially or completely disabling cookies.

Nature and purpose of data processing

We use personal data to operate this website and to provide and promote our services. Different data is processed depending on how you use our website.

On the one hand, such data includes information that you actively share with us (e.g. in a contact form or by email).

Other data is collected automatically while you visit this website. Such data is mainly technical information such as your IP address or which web browser you are using.

We also assess the behaviour of visitors to our website. The data is analysed statistically and is not used in any way used to observe or identify individuals. The insights gained help us to optimise the website to improve the user experience.

Security measures

We have taken technical and organisational measures to protect your data from misuse when using our website and the associated features and services. To name but a few examples, the security precautions taken include encryption of data transferred between your browser and our server (HTTPS) and secure sending of emails (SSL/TLS). We recommend that you also enable SSL/TLS in your email program.

We would like to point out that security vulnerabilities can never be completely ruled out when transferring data over the internet.

Storage and deletion

We will only use data that you send us (e.g. using a contact form) for its intended purpose and will not disclose it to third parties without your permission.

By transferring the data, you agree that we may store and process the data until you withdraw your consent to such storage or until such data storage is no longer required for the intended purpose and there are no statutory retention requirements to prevent deletion.

Server access data

We collect information about each instance of access to the server on which this website is located. These log files contain the URL of the viewed web page, the file, the date and time of access, the request status code, the amount of data transferred, the browser type and version, the user’s operating system, the referrer URL (the page visited previously), the IP address and the requesting provider.

The log files are used for operating, ensuring the security of and optimising this website and are deleted periodically. Generally speaking, the log data is evaluated for statistical purposes only. Where there is justified suspicion of unlawful use (e.g. a hacker attack), we reserve the right to examine the log data in detail. Data that needs to be retained for an extended period of time for evidence purposes is exempt from periodic deletion until the incident has been resolved.

Cookies

Like almost all websites, we also use cookies. Cookies are small text files that are stored on users’ devices. Session cookies are automatically deleted when you close your browser. Other cookies have an expiry date or are stored permanently to enable browser recognition the next time you visit our website.

We use cookies to enable certain features and to make your browsing experience more rewarding. Cookies also help us to analyse how our website is used. You can find more detailed information about the services used in the corresponding sections, including information about how you can stop these cookies from being set.

You can object to the use of marketing cookies for a large number of the services – particularly with respect to tracking – using the US site aboutads.info/choicesor the EU site youronlinechoices.com.

You can also categorically block cookies or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. However, if you do so, you may no longer be able to use all the features of this website.

Newsletter

We use the double opt-in process for subscriptions to our newsletter. Once you have registered on this website, you will receive an email asking you to confirm your registration. This confirmation is necessary to ensure that you are really the person completing the registration. This process is logged so we can prove the registration process has taken place.

You can cancel your subscription at any time. An ‘Unsubscribe’ link is provided at the end of each newsletter. Your personal data associated with the newsletter subscription will be deleted once you unsubscribe.

When you open the newsletter, a connection to our server is established through an small embedded graphic. It collects technical information such as your browser version, your system version, your IP address and the access time. It is possible to determine whether newsletters are opened, when they are opened and which links are clicked on. Technically speaking, this information could be assigned to individual recipients, but we have no interest in monitoring individual users. We evaluate the information anonymously to identify reading habits and optimise our newsletter.

Social media

We maintain an online presence on social networks and platforms so we can communicate with our customers, interested parties and users who are active there and so we can provide them with information about our services. The terms and conditions and the privacy policies of the operators in question apply when you access these networks and platforms.

The Shariff plugin is used to integrate social media buttons – e.g. the ‘Share’ or ‘Like’ buttons – on this website. When this method is used, a connection to the social media network in question is only established when the user actively clicks on the button.

If you visit our website while logged into an external service, additional processing operations involving personal data (which we have no control over) may take place. Please contact the providers in question for more information.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics – a web analytics service provided by Google LLC – is integrated on this website. Google processes the information on our behalf, compiles reports for us on website activities and provides other services so that we can evaluate and optimise the use of our website. Pseudonymous user profiles may be created from the processed data.

We use Google Analytics with IP anonymisation. This means that Google truncates the user’s IP address within member states of the European Union or in other states that are parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transferred to a Google server in the USA and truncated there. The IP address is not merged with other data held by Google.

We use ‘demographics and interests reports’ in Google Analytics. These reports include statements about the age, gender and interests of visitors to our website. This information either comes from users who are logged into a Google service or is derived from activity on Google products and in its display network. The data cannot be assigned to a specific individual.

If you do not want us to collect your data with Google Analytics, you can either disable cookies in your browser or install the following plugin: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en-GB

You can find out more information about Google’s data usage activities and about the possibilities available with respect to settings and opportunities to object on the Google websites:

Google Analytics Remarketing

Our website uses the features of Google Analytics Remarketing in conjunction with the cross-device features of Google AdWords and Google DoubleClick. Advertising target groups created in Google Analytics Remarketing can be linked to the cross-device features of Google AdWords and Google DoubleClick. Interest-based, personalised advertising messages that have been customised to you on one terminal device (e.g. a mobile phone) based on your previous usage and browsing behaviour may also be displayed in this way on another of your terminal devices (e.g. a tablet or laptop).

Google will link your web and app browsing history to your Google account for this purpose if you have given your consent to this effect. So the same personalised advertising messages may be shown on every terminal device that you use for logging in with your Google account.

To support this feature, Google Analytics collects users’ Google-authenticated IDs, which are temporarily linked to our Google Analytics data so we can define and create target groups for cross-device advertising.

You can permanently object to cross-device remarketing/targeting by disabling personalised advertising in your Google account: https://adssettings.google.com/authenticated?hl=gb

Further information and the data protection provisions can be found in Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads?hl=gb

Matomo

Matomo is an open-source platform that uses cookies to analyse how our website is used. Pseudonymous user profiles can be created from the processed data.

The following data is stored on our server in Switzerland: browser type and version, operating system, country of origin, date and time of the server request, number of visits, time spent on the website and external links clicked. The IP address is truncated before storage.

You can object to Matomo’s collection of anonymised data at any time with effect for the future by unchecking the box below. This will place an opt-out cookie in your browser, so Matomo will no longer collect session data. Please note that, when cookies are generally deleted, this opt-out cookie is deleted too and must be re-enabled.

Integration of third-party services and content

We use third-party services on this website. The user’s IP address must be transferred so that these third-party providers can send content to the browser. Furthermore, these third-party providers may use other techniques to collect and process pseudonymous data.

Services provided by the following third-party providers are integrated on our website:
